Breast Lift

It is a breast lift, also known as mastopexy, it’s an operation used to reduce sagging breasts after pregnancy, weight loss, or when it is a factor of heredity.

You may be a good candidate for a breast lift procedure if saggy (nipples placed near the sub mammary furrow or breast crease), have lack of firmness and the nipples point downward or sideways. The incisions for this procedure may vary with the amount of existing sagging and the desired amount of lift.

To correct the sagging, the incisions are made to sculpt the breast, reducing excess skin and raising the nipple-areola complex to a more convenient position.

Mastopexy can be performed as a single procedure or in combination with the enhancement of size (mastopexy + increase).

Is Mastopexy right for me?

Mastopexy is recommended for those who:

  • Seek to correct the appearance of sagging breasts and / or nipples that point downward.
  • Enjoy good physical health and have realistic expectations about the surgery.
  • No smoking.
  • They are not currently pregnant or nursing.
  • They have taken the decision to have a breast lift done by their own will.

Preoperative for Mastopexy

Dr. Elizabeth Ruiz makes all pre-operative recommendations for you to prepare for Mastopexy.

Mastopexy or Breast Lift

Mastopexy is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia.

To start breast lift, the incision of choice is made on the chest. Then the removal of excess skin is made before the tensioning of the supporting tissue structures. The plastic surgeon also can re-shape the breast while moving to a higher position, looking for a more aesthetic location on the chest wall. If the areola of the patient is extremely large, Dr. Ruiz can remove part of the skin of the outer edge, reducing its overall size achieving harmony of the breasts.

Breast Lift Recovery

Mastopexy is an outpatient procedure performed under intravenous anesthesia.

After surgery, your breasts will be bruised, swollen and sore for a week. You will need to wear a surgical bra during the first week after surgery, and then replace it with a support bra for several weeks.

The post-surgical inflammation will disappear with time and the scars will fade. You may feel some numbness in the nipples and breasts after mastopexy, sensitivity will gradually return in the coming weeks. However, some patients experience numbness up to one year.

Results Mastopexy

Although breast lift results are immediately visible, the breast shape and position will continue settling in the following months. The incision lines are permanent, but will eventually disappear.

While the results of mastopexy are long lasting, your breasts may change due to aging and gravity. You can maintain good results if you are able to maintain a relatively stable weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
