Rhinoplasty

Dr. Elizabeth Ruiz can help you reach those beauty goals you set out and have a beautiful nose. In fact, this is one of the methods Dr. Ruiz does best. Imagine looking in the mirror and being happy with that beautiful new nose. Rhinoplasty or nose surgery can dramatically improve your appearance and self-esteem.

The shape, size and appearance of your nose are determined by genes, but may also change due to trauma. Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure used to define the nose and reduce or increase the size, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, and reduce the width of the nostrils. This procedure can also be reconstructive to correct a birth defect, a nasal injury, or help correct some breathing problems. Dr. Ruiz can also reconstruct the nose that has been destroyed by skin cancer.

Dr. Elizabeth Ruiz evaluates the structure of your nose and face, and discusses with the patient about the factors that influence the process and outcome. These factors include the structure of your nasal bones and cartilage, the shape of your face, the thickness of your skin, your age and most importantly, your expectations. Together you decide the best aesthetic and functional outcome of the nose. Please contact Dr. Elizabeth Ruiz for more information on nose surgery or rhinoplasty to schedule a consultation and assessment of your case.

Is Rhinoplasty right for me?

To fully establish if rhinoplasty is right for you, it is best to attend an assessment with a certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience such as Dr. Elizabeth Ruiz. During the consultation Dr. Ruiz will examine the nasal anatomy of patients and listen to their concerns and expectations about rhinoplasty.

Generally, rhinoplasty is suitable for those who:

  • They have good self-esteem and a positive image of themselves but feel a bit frustrated by the size, shape, asymmetry or malfunction of your nose.
  • Enjoy good health.
  • They decided on a rhinoplasty to satisfy a personal interest and not for someone else’s happiness.
  • They are not currently pregnant.
  • Recognize potential risks as well as benefits of rhinoplasty physically and psychologically.

Preoperative for Rhinoplasty

Dr. Elizabeth Ruiz makes all pre operative recommendations for you to prepare for nose surgery.

Nose surgery or Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, in Cali, is usually performed as an outpatient procedure. The operation can be performed under intravenous anesthesia. The surgery may take one or two hours, more complicated procedures may take longer. Rhinoplasty can be done in a closed manner with all the incisions made inside the nose or an open technique through a small incision in the columella or base of the nose. During the procedure, the underlying framework of the nose which consists of bone and cartilage, is reshaped leaving skin overlying the new structure.

Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty) is very important for two key aspects, the first because we must always take care to preserve the anatomy and its important functions, the second is related to the good cephalometric analysis so that the end result leads to the appropriate facial harmony, so it is important to define what aspect we must improve; if it’s the level of cartilage or bone, the association with connective tissue and ligaments or level of skin and soft tissue.

You must remember that every face has features that make it unique and therefore it is not appropriate to extrapolate results from other patients in you, according to your features the approach to be undertaken and nasal element work will be defined.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Patients recovering from rhinoplasty can plan to be out of their jobs and daily activities for a week or two. For the first few days after surgery, patients should have their head elevated, even when sleeping. You may feel that your nose is runny or stuffy and may have to breathe through your mouth for a few days.

The nose may be swollen and sore, and any purple bruises caused by the nose can spread to the eye region. Patients should not be alarmed if they experience the appearance of “black eyes”. These are normal symptoms and will gradually improve in the next 10 days after rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty Results

Rhinoplasty can dramatically change your appearance. It is common to feel dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose immediately after surgery. At this point, the nose is still quite swollen and can take up to a year to see the end result of your new nose.

During this time, there may be gradual changes in the appearance of your nose, since it is refining the permanent result. While the results of rhinoplasty are permanent, this will not prevent the effects of aging.
